halfの使い方

1. I know.
「そうだね」くらいの意味です。

2.half the words
文字通りの意味は「全部の語の半分」ですが、ここは単に「よくわからなかった」という意味です。

What's wrong? You only finished half your dinner（食が進まないじゃないか）

3.Do you know what this word means？
文の形に注意しましょう。
Do you know がつかないときは、what does this word mean?です。

4.You'd better～
＝You had better～　「～した方がよい」

5.look～up
「辞書を引く」という意味。in the dictionaryを付け加えなくても、この意味になります。
目的語が代名詞のitなどのときはlook it up の語順になりますが、代名詞でないときには、look～up でもlook up ～の語順でも良い。

私は半分も意味がわかりません。

He doesn't know half the words.
彼は半分も意味がわかりません。

He doesn't know how to spell "slippers."
彼は「スリッパ」のつづりがわかりません。

He forgot how to spell "Slippers."
彼は「スリッパ」のつづりを忘れました。

He forgot half the words.
彼はその言葉の意味を半ば忘れました。
